4G is starting the year off with a unit called "It's Our Turf". Students will embark on an investigative journey of our local area, The Gap. This journey will delve into the history of The Gap's settlement through to current times, comparing similarities and differences. Students will be invited to write a letter or diary entry from the perspective of an early Gap settler, research and mapping exercises.
As 2008 is the 150 year anninversary of The Gap's settlement, our unit of work will culminate with 4G planning a display of items of interest from The Gap's history. Our whole school community will be invited to celebrate with us by visiting our display on Friday 28 March, 2008. More details will follow closer to the event.
4G has been fortunate to have members of our local community share their knowledge of the local area with them. Students have been entertained and amazed by stories from Mr Jeff Hilder.
Mr Hilder has made one visit to the class dressed as a swagman and brought many items from his private historic collection. The whole class is waiting excitedly for his next visit.
Mr Hemming is also keen to visit the class to share some stories from his childhood growing up in The Gap.
Thanks Mr Hilder and Mr Hemming!

An old baby's bath.

A model carriage

An egg scale.

A fly trap. Sugar and water would be placed in the bottom to attact the flies. Once they were in there, they were not able to escape!

Rattley the Rat!

A spinning top- not something Year 4 students were used to playing with!

Some interesting stories came with this axe!
One of our mums has a hidden talent. She has visited 4G to share her talent with them. Keep watching this space to find out who it was! |
