In term 2, while Year 5 students spent some time preparing for the Year 5 Test, they were also involved in investigating the question: Can playing computer games help build life skills? This unit involved brainstorming life skills, parent surveys, discussing favourable and unfavourable articles on computer games and their effects on children. Students also participated in a "Gaming & Observation Day" where the use of computer games such as Wii, X-Box, Playstation and Game Boys was observed.
The assessment task for this unit required students to prepare a persuasive speech arguing whether computer games did or did not help build life skills. Speeches were recorded and critiqued by students
5G also used their ICT skills to develop their own computer game of Jeopardy and recorded a persuasive advertisement to promote their viewpoint on the value of computer games for children.
In Science, 5G undertook a Primary Connections unit titled "Plants in Action". They conducted investigations about the stages and processes of the plant life cycle.
