Throughout term 3, students will be involved in a unit based around China and the Beijing Olympics. They will be learningabout China, its culture and comparing the ancient and modern Olympic Games. Classes will be following the progress of the Australian athletes for the duration of the Games.
Technology assessments will require students to design and collect suitable materials for the construction of a "Beijing Structure" similar to one of the Olympic venues.
Students will also monitor the progress of their favourite olympian and produce a PowerPoint presentation making use of hyperlinks. They will then present their report in the form of an interview.
In science, 5G will be using Primary Connections while studying "Spinning in Space - Energy".
Assessment tasks will include:
planning and conducting as a fair test, an investigation of the effect of time of day on length and direction of shadows. Students will record observations and construct a graph to represent their results.
use of written, oral and visual language to describe their understanding of the sun, Earth and moon moving in space.
the construction of a poster to represent and communicate their ideas and what they have learnt
reflection of learning through science journal entries.
